Beginnings and development
Healing water
Rumours about healing water that was supposed to be found in the villages Vaseno, Potok and Snovik, were circulating among the inhabitants of the surrounding villages since the beginning of the 20th century. The villagers often went to collect the water that was flowing freely at the Kovač farm. Many of them took it home for drinking, after the words about its benevolent effect on digestion had been spread. In 1953, first analyses of water and floor were conducted in the area of the villages Vaseno and Snovik, followed by researches for eventual pumping and purposeful use of thermal water.
In the 40-year period from 1953 to 1994, 15 research wells for pumping thermal water were set up in the area of the villages Vaseno, Potok and Snovik. The project was carried out by the local community Srednja vas and the municipality Kamnik. Later on, two additional wells were made in the village Potok under the supervision of the company Zarja Kovis d.o.o., Kamnik. From them, a 1 km long pipeline leads water to the location of Terme Snovik. At the well, the water's temperature is 30,6 oC, and its flow is 14 l/s.
The experts from the Research Centre Rogaška Slatina, who conducted physical and chemical analyses of the thermal water, discovered that it is potable water of high quality, pure and without admixtures, and therefore does not need any additional treatment. Further they discovered that the water is very rich in magnesium and calcium.
Swimming Pool Complex
Within the framework of the project CRPOV Snovik (integrated development of rural regions and village revival), a pilot swimming pool was set up in 1994. Until the year 2001, the swimming pool with an area of 200 square metres was visited by more than 70 thousand guests, predominantly from Kamnik, Kranj and Ljubljana. Due to numerous visitors, excellent results of scientific researches and the visitor's wishes for an extended offer, we decided to build a complete thermal spa resort. In June 2001 we opened an outdoor thermal swimming pool with an area of more than 500 square metres. In the autumn, we added a roof and in January 2002, we opened an indoor thermal riviera. In summer 2003, new outdoor pools were built. A new swimming pool made of stainless inox material with two water slides actually made the visitors' wishes come true. In the same year, the Restaurant Potočka was opened.
Apartment complex
The first two houses of the apartment complex were built in 2005, followed by the opening of the next three in the following year. In June 2007, the third, final phase of the construction of the apartment complex in Terme Snovik was finished.
In the apartment complex that has partially been financed by EU structural funds in Slovenia, there are now 371 beds. Since the opening of the first part of the complex in the year 2005, the highest situated thermal spa resort has had 34000 overnight stays. In March 2007, a biomass boiler room started operating in the complex, meaning that the use of fossil fuels will be entirely replaced by an environmentally friendlier energy from renewable sources. The construction of the boiler room was partially financed from the funds of the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund and from the funds of the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Agricultural Markets and Rural Development.
