Kamnik in the rhythms of tradition, colors, and celebration!
52nd DAYS OF NATIONAL COSTUMES AND CLOTHING HERITAGE IN KAMNIK
Kamnik, from September 12 to 14, 2025
This year, Kamnik will once again shine in the colors, rhythms, and melodies of Slovenian cultural heritage. Between September 12 and 14, 2025, they will host the 52nd Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage, the largest ethnological festival in Slovenia, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors and participants from Slovenia and abroad every year.
In organizing this year's, already the 52nd edition of the Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage, the Belokranjska national costume will be the central representational element of the festival's overall graphic image. With this, they wish to express gratitude and respect for Belokranjska, which boasts the oldest folklore festival in Slovenia – Jurjevanje. Since the Days of National Costumes are the largest ethnological festival in the country, the connection between the two festivals is not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful and natural.
This year's central festival region will be Belokranjska, which will present its unique national costume, recognizable by white linen clothing, characteristic headscarves, and aprons. Their costume expresses simplicity, elegance, and a century-old care for tradition, which is still alive and respected today.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about Belokranjske pisanice – hand-painted Easter eggs with traditional wax patterns – and experience authentic Belokranjska flavors, such as the famous Belokranjska pogača. This delicious bread specialty, topped with characteristic sprinkled salt and cumin, will also be featured in a live baking workshop at the Mekinje Monastery. A variety of other delicacies from Belokranjska, including handmade crafts, will also be available at the festival stalls.
Alongside the rich display of Belokranjska heritage, Kamnik will also embrace the tradition from all Slovenian regions over these three days and host folklore groups and artists from abroad, enriched with local hospitality and the local offer of Kamnik.
More than just a festival
The Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage are much more than just an event – they are a celebration of Slovenian identity, craftsmanship skills, cultural diversity, and heritage that connects.
In the center of Kamnik, the old and new, local and foreign will intertwine again – with a rich market of local and artistic crafts, demonstrations of craftsmanship skills, local culinary providers, culinary workshops, music, dancing, and genuine joy of all who believe in the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
Entry is free.
