Our greatest treasure is the healing thermal water, which was discovered long ago by the locals. They often visited the freely flowing water at the homestead "at Kovač" and took it home for drinking and washing.
The story of Terme Snovik began with the discovery of a thermal spring between 1953 and 1990, during which seventeen exploratory wells were drilled. Analyses showed that the water is pure, rich in calcium and magnesium, with a constant temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius at the source and a flow rate of 14 liters per second. The water was channeled through a pipe approximately one kilometer long to the current location of the spa in Snovik, laying the foundation for further development.
A significant milestone was August 25, 1994, when the first pilot pool was built. This was part of the development program for the Tuhinj Valley and the CRPOV Snovik project, marking the beginning of organized thermal activities. In 2000, the founders – the company Zarja Kovis from Kamnik, farmer Srečo Urankar, the Municipality of Kamnik, and the Domžale Savings and Loan Service – formally established the company. The number of shareholders has increased over the years, and today there are 26, reflecting broader support from the local community.
In June 2001, after seven years of the pilot pool, the first larger thermal pool was opened, featuring over 500 square meters of water surface and various water attractions. A key date in history remains January 25, 2002, when the indoor pool complex began full operation, offering additional services such as massages, solarium, and outdoor gym. This day was particularly special as the pools opened in the middle of winter, at minus ten degrees Celsius and amidst heavy snowfall, without a grand ceremony, but with great confidence in the future.
Development continued in June 2003 with the opening of an outdoor pool measuring 470 square meters, built from stainless steel materials, making it the first of its kind among spas in Slovenia. The year 2004 brought the establishment of facilities for physiotherapy and massages, as well as the opening of the Sauna World and the Potočka restaurant. From 2005 to 2007, an apartment complex with wooden structures named after tree species was created, and we received recognition for an energy-efficient project utilizing heat pumps and solar collectors, along with the renewal of our ISO 9001 quality certification.
In 2006, we adopted a Quality Policy with a clear commitment to respecting environmental legislation and preventing pollution, and in 2018, we enhanced our active, healthy, and green offerings with the Kneipp philosophy. In 2024, we opened the Eco Camp Snovik for nature lovers.
The year 2026 will be a pivotal year for us.
NaturHotel Snovik 4* Superior will enhance the experience of staying at Terme Snovik as a sustainable hotel surrounded by the Tuhinj Valley, with a capacity of 72 rooms for 169 guests. It will be constructed using wooden CLT technology, with all rooms featuring terraces and views of the surrounding nature. Guests will have direct access to the thermal pools and wellness area, and a new pool with saunas and an expanded gastronomic offer is also being developed within the hotel. An important part of the investment is a conference center for up to 350 participants, marking our entry into the field of sustainable conference tourism. Sustainability is not new to us but a constant direction, as we have been using exclusively renewable energy sources since 2007 and adhere to the highest environmental standards. The new investment is also designed to be energy-efficient, reducing carbon footprints and considering year-round tourism.
Thus, Terme Snovik did not emerge overnight. It has developed gradually, with persistence, collaboration, and faith in the potential of the Tuhinj Valley and the power of healing thermal water, which remains the heart of our story.
