Menina planina is a Prealpine plateau between 1200 and 1450 metres above sea level, known for its rolling meadows, forest paths, and numerous natural ponds. It was named after the monks of the Gornji Grad monastery, which historically managed the area. The trail to the Dom na Menini planini mountain hut is well marked and leads past small chapels where visitors traditionally ring the bell and make a wish.
The hike begins in Gornji Grad, which you can reach from the Savinja Valley or from Kamnik via the Črnivec Pass. Parking is available at the organised parking area next to the main bus station. From there, follow the main road towards the Savinja Valley. After a few dozen metres, signs for Dom na Menini planini direct you right onto Prod Street. Just past the first house, continue straight towards Menina planina, passing Semprimožnik. The entire route is excellently marked and leads you to the scenic grassy slopes where the mountain hut stands.
